In my case, I frequently make errors in my writing, such as misspellings, grammatical errors, incorrect word choice, punctuation errors, improper sentence structure, etc. I address these issues by utilizing ProWritingAid. Vorteile:

It has a special feature known as "data visualization" that helps to assess my writing. This feature really helps me to identify the lacking in my writing. It works nicely with Microsoft Word, a variety of browsers, and email. The most incredible thing about it is that it can recognize an incorrect word in a sentence and then offer the correct term to replace it. In addition, tools like spell check, grammar correction, sentence structure suggestions, and word suggestions all come in handy when I'm writing essays.

Nachteile:

The most annoying thing is that if I make a sentence with passive voice, it unnecessarily detects this structure and suggests changing the passive voice structure. In academic writing, I have to often use the passive voice structure. Secondly, I would say it is costly as compared to other similar tools, especially for the student.

Kommentare: Overall, this software is the best I've ever worked with. It is beyond thorough, which is exactly what I needed for my novel editing needs. If you're on the line, get it, you won't regret it.

It's hard to pick just one thing, and ProWritingAid is a critical part of my writing process now. I'd say the absolutely thorough set of features is my favorite thing. They can pick up everything from simple grammar mistakes to things like adverb usage and filter words. I can't speak enough praise about them.

Nachteile:

The dictionary and term base features don't always seem to work as intended. I'm not sure if it's an error on my side or not, but it would be nice to have the terms defined and have them show up in my writing as I go (so I can double check myself as I go). A way to add terms that aren't a CVS file would also be greatly appreciated.

Great Tool for Extremely Short Texts, Monumental Fail Otherwise

Kommentare: Sharing my two cents about ProWritingAid that I purchased a lifetime licence for: If you're reviewing texts about 300 - 400 words in length at maximum, you'll be happy with the tool. Otherwise, it's not worth the money. If you need a short-term solution, then by all means go for it but don't pay a buck for actually using the SW. I've been using the Word add-on for over three months now and if you want to use most of the tools on more than 800 words, the tool simply can't handle the 'load.' Usually, it breaks off after a minute or so and you can run the check again which normally doesn't help. You end up wasting a ton of your time and accomplish nothing at all. While the language advice and the correction improvements you get recommended are helpful, you're better off using Grammarly or another alternative if you're reviewing long chunks of text in one go and don't want to constantly copy-paste from Word to their interface and back which is a pain if you have to do that daily like myself.

Vorteile:

Totally intuitive. If you know anything about how English, grammar and vocabulary alike, finding your way through the options and how they work will be a breeze. No learning curve. The tool as well as the report are perfectly self-explanatory. Easy-to-use online interface.

Nachteile:

Useless add-on when dealing with texts of 800+ words. Constant copy-pasting to and from the online interface wasting your time.

ProWritingAid gives professional tools to everyone

Kommentare: I have edited over 3,000,000 words using this software, over several years. It is formidable, and thorough. From novels to articles, blog posts to emails ProWritingAid delivers the goods. It is flexible, and you can denote both tone and style.

Vorteile:

For instance, picking an Academic Style, with a formal tone, vs a Romance Novel and casual style. The suggestions can be modified according to native language as well! An excellent tool, and one I use every day.

Nachteile:

It has a bit of a tendency to initially be very conservative regarding passive / active voice and reading levels. While this is good for casual articles, when using it to proof academic papers, it can be too aggressive. Luckily, it is tunable. Another thing is that having to pay an additional fee to purchase 'credits' for use in detecting plagiarism is a bit problematic.

My school life and my writer life has never had it easier!

Vorteile:

The readability checks along with the repeated word counter saves my papers and rough drafts and gives me a lot less work to do when I have to do hard edits.

Nachteile:

The only thing that I don't like is that the plagiarism checks are limited. If anything, I would wish that paying customers can get a certain amount of checks every time they renew their license.

Yes, knowing the rules of grammar is necessary if you want to proofread well because bad knowledge leads to worse presentation. Fortunately, a tool like ProWritingAid shortcuts the learning and application process by making suggestions wherever it detects a problem with your mechanics. And it’s true that no program can ever replace a human proofreader (or your own proofreading eyes), as no machine understands every context in which your writing may demonstrate. But ProWritingAid and its 20+ categories for examination and recommendation sure gets pretty close. The fact that it can scrutinize your work both online and off makes it even more versatile and necessary if you care even a little about your writing professionalism.

Besides the fact that it covers basic grammar checks like style, punctuation, and sentence construction, etc., it also checks for sentence length (for variety), clichés (because everyone says they’re bad for some reason), quotes and dialogue, telling versus showing, sensory language, and more. If you’ve ever needed a solid compass to see how ready you are to hit “publish” on your blog or Amazon KDP sales page, or whatever your reason is for writing, ProWritingAid doesn’t get more stable. With very few exceptions, it examines your writing for just about any mistake you can make and gives you a report on your strengths, weaknesses, and consistencies (or lack thereof). This reporting feature is also good to show you your writing habits, in case you need to change any. The program also links you to grammar rules if you ever need to know why it’s making a particular suggestion. This reduces the need for prior knowledge, though you’ll still want some grammar knowledge to make up for the rules that the program overlooks or doesn’t accurately detect. After all, no grammar-checking software is perfect. Not even this one. But it massages its lack into a faux perfection pretty well.

Nachteile:

The amount of checks that ProWritingAid offers is not only its strength, but also, potentially, its downfall. To put it mildly, using ProWritingAid is a mental exercise that can sap your energy if you insist on using every feature for every instance. For example, I can spend anywhere from one to three hours examining a single piece of writing if I go through every category. By the end, I’m ready for a nap, or a change in procedure. Likewise, by paring down your editing process to the essentials and leaving out the extras (do you really care about clichés?), you run the risk of missing out on a valuable sensory suggestion or a misused homonym if that falls out of your routine. For short works of 1000 words or less, you probably won’t feel that slow agonizing sap of energy by the time you get to the 22nd category (Pacing), but if you’re writing a book (as I sometimes do), you’ll feel your brain go numb by Chapter 3, and by that point, you’re only an eighth of the way finished. So, you’ll want to pace yourself (hopefully better than what the 22nd category may reveal about your writing). There also seems to be a slight difference in features between the desktop and online versions. The online version plays better with style guides than the desktop version does. For those who work offline only, it’s important to know that.

Great Online Editor

Kommentare: PWA is one of the best investments I made this year. Though it doesn't catch all mistakes, it catches most, making it worth every penny.

ProWritingAid is one of the few subscription-based applications that works for me. When I'm writing online like I'm doing now, PWA is checking my grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style usage. Before I started using PWA, I would have to read my writing several times to catch mistakes, and unfortunately, I wouldn't catch them all because I'm not good at proofreading my writing. As I'm typing or when I'm done typing, PWA helps me edit faster. For example, if I type the same word twice next to one another, I don't have to use the keyboard to delete the second word. I just click the PWA highlight and delete the duplicate word. The same goes for if I miss an article in front of a word. PWA provides the missing word and I just click to add it. I correct most of the edits PWA suggests without using the keyboard. I also use PWA for longer-form writing. PWA has an extensive collection of editing tools for improving my sentences. It's like having a personal editor for my writing. Finally, PWA's lifetime subscription is a huge plus money-wise. App users should not have to keep paying annual fees for the same app for the rest of their life. With the lifetime subscription, I own PWA and all its future updates. I appreciate that.

Nachteile:

I look forward to PWA working globally in all applications. It only works in online applications, but that's not a big con because I mostly write online.

The main tool I've used for editing and proofreading for years. Better than any other I've tried.

Peace of mind that follows you around

Vorteile:

First of all, contrary to other similar software I used in the past, this one doesn't slow my computers to a crawl. It does everything it says, does it well, and offers a web version as well as an installable version which can be conjured to use within most windows applications. Great for my Scrivener workflow.

Nachteile:

Bit bare-bone and the windows app seems bulky and clumsy to use at times but under the hood it packs a lot of powerful features and quality tools

It can distinguish between British and American English and is remarkably complete when you let it review an entire document at once for all that it can catch. It can catch inconsistent useage, for instance, along with wordy or muddy prose with overused words and clichés. This functionality matters most, but I also dearly love the fact that you can buy a permanent licence. I hate subscription software.

Nachteile:

The program is best used as you write for my purposes. When it goes over an entire document with full reports after the fact, it can take a very long time to get through them all, and many of the suggestions might well be useful to a novice writer, but less so to an experienced professional who knows when to break the rules.

It's Cost Effective and Useful

ProWritingAid is a very nice tool to make sure all your content is written properly. It is extremely easy to use and you can set it up in just a few minutes. To start checking a document, you can upload an existing one or create a new one from scratchIt corrects your mistakes and classifies them in grammar, style, and spelling. This allows you to understand where you should improve. I found it very useful in the cases we have to write long manuals. It gives you endless possibilities to get further information about words (dictionary definitions, quotes, etc), same with extensive explanations of why your sentence needs corrections. The dashboard is very complete, and you find all the information on stats about your most common mistakes, key suggestions for improvements, vocabulary, etc.

Nachteile:

As in my team, we usually do not write long documents and we use it mostly for emails and presentations, we have decided to use another alternative tool as we found it more suitable for our purpose. Something that offered a 'check on the go' At the time I tried it, they offered only the yearly subscription and the free trial was 14 days. It would be nice to have other subscription options that are more flexible

ProWritingAid has literally helped me to become a better writer

Kommentare: I plug every single piece of writing that I do into ProWritingAid, and as a full time writer that means I use it often! I am writing a book write now and after the first draft is done I plan to plug each chapter into the program so I will have a cleaner copy for my editor to go through. I hope this will make the final product a higher quality. I recommend prowritingaid often to friends and colleagues and I plan to keep using it for the foreseeable future.

Vorteile:

I love the setup and functionality of the program and how easy it is to use. It's easy to load up a document and have it analyze several layers of content. I love that it can 1) Spit out a summary of your documents grade and show you why it received a certain grade for each layer of analysis 2) Shows you how can improve the style of your writing and where you need to check again 3) Analyze your grammar and show you what you might need to correct I plug every single piece of sales copy I write into the program and it has helped me to pump out some great finished content.

Nachteile:

At times I have lost data when the program has crashed or my computer has shut down unexpectedly. It doesn't auto save as I am used to from using google docs, and you need to be careful not to close out of the document until you either save it or copy and paste the content into its final destination. This is only a minor issue that boils down to user error mostly, but I would love an auto save feature to be added in.

A helping hand for grammar

They are a bit aggressive when writing, interrupting with pop-ups without giving me chance to correct a mistake I know I've made. I would prefer a delay of a second or so between the time I click on a highlighted word and when the pop-up comes up. That would allow me to edit it on my own. It doesn't do as well allowing for stylistic choices, especially for fiction where a writer might make choices that may not be strictly governed by grammatical rigor. By far, they are really aggressive with passive voice, but sometimes that's what I want.

ProWritingAid Continues to Improve My Writing

Vorteile:

I started using ProWritingAid’s free features for my creative writing. When I began to compose editorials for clients, I noticed how the “real-time” feature reported the things I needed to revise. I upgraded to use the advanced features and noted that by accessing the reports, I could learn more about “Consistency” and “Readability”. I could learn about the grammatical errors I was making. A geek to the core, the thesaurus is my best friend when writing. Perhaps the most important feature for me is ProWritingAid’s options to switch English dialects. I write for both American and UK clients and found this feature to be the most invaluable.

Nachteile:

When I am working on a pressing deadline, I don’t have time to look through the blogs for assistance. Also, the program freezes when I’m writing online.
