Difficult to setup, but when you do, you will be delighted

Kommentare: I work on websites with many photographs and useing Amazon S3 has greatly imporoved my page loading speeds. Its has save me money as I do not have to pay extra for Web Service Space. Also Amazon S3 on its own is like a CDN or Content Delivery Network. On one of my projects, I am storing PDF files on S3.

Vorteile:

Great Value for money when it comes to Cloud Storage Great for Photographers to help boost there page speed loading and Google Ranking Reduces costs on te Web Host Server as Pictures, PDF Files and Video are not on the main server

Nachteile:

Difficult to setup and get all your credentials Can be cumbersome if you have a lot of photographs or files. You may need to invest in a plugin to automatically upload the content to S3 automatically.

The heart of the cloud is no longer limited to discussion of storage

Kommentare: As storage, it is secure and economical, or it can handle processing that requires high performance, and detailed selection and configuration are possible. It is a basic and necessary function that forms the core of the cloud together with EC2. The price and performance change automatically according to the frequency of access, so content and variety can be chosen according to the user. S3's billing system is basically pay-as-you-go and control of the operation is straightforward. Considering the security, maintenance and start-up skills required, rather than owning an actual computer, it appears to be considerably cheaper.

Vorteile:

Secure feel with ultra-high durability. Convenient data entry through integration with various services. Really easy and convenient. Flexibility to activate Lambda based on S3 events (but there are problems). Flexible security configuration by configuring S3 and IAM. Flexible pricing depends on the frequency of use (although it is cheap to start with). Recently, I was very happy to be able to use it as a data storage location for AWS Transfer for FTP. Since the server less FTP host environment was created, the operation is very simple.

Nachteile:

The activation of the S3 event is not guaranteed. In exceptional cases, it may not trigger and you may have to write another Lambda for recovery. This is problematic.

A huge and cheap tool for storing several TB of data

Kommentare: Amazon S3 is the heart of our cloud architecture, providing all the buckets we need to read/write data, both from production and sand environment. It's highly integrated with other AWS services and it's quite cheap and easy to set up and manage.

It's a cheap solution for storing data. You can easily access AWS s3 both with data processing platforms (e.g. Spark) and client softwares (e.g. Cyberduck). You can also choose which type of storage fits better your need, depending of the access frequency (once a week, once a month, once a year...). AWS S3 supports all data format, while some of them (parquet and iceberg) are highly recommended for storing huge tables. You can also set lifecycle rules to delete old and unused files after a custom period.

Nachteile:

As a minor hiccup, there is some trouble in deleting corrupted files.

Amazon S3 review

Kommentare: Amazon S3 did exactly what I wanted it to do once I got past the setup obstacles. It is a bit difficult to navagate. Amazon does offer free training for their products which is a plus.

Vorteile:

With Amazon being such a large company, we can use multiple technologies with only one bill. Amazon is well known and does a good job at storing and retaining my data. Amazon has many more features than their competitors which is great if you know how to set them up and run them. Amazon S3 does offer free training for their products which is helpful.

Nachteile:

Amazon S3 platform is hard to navigate, I feel it is ment for an advanced user rather than someone who is trying out new technology. Amazon is a bit higher priced than many competitors.

Amazon S3: A Needed Object-Oriented Storage Platform for the AWS Cloud

Kommentare: Great experience testing the S3 storage capabilities and features. High compatibility with OOP constructs.

Vorteile:

I really like the free-tier offer by Amazon which provides a 12-months free S3 storage with a capacity of 5 GB and over 20000 access requests. This is really generous and allows a developer to test the full AWS features mainly the interaction between the VM processing in EC2 and the storage in S3 to stand on the actual performance and throughput of different application classes. I used Amazon S3 in testing the storage of sensor data from a test-bed home automation application. The object-oriented bucket architecture in S3 made it very easy to store sensor data using probabilistic sketching data structures such as Bloom filters and Quotient filters. Very efficient even with large data streams which gives an indication on the sophisticated algorithms supporting the S3 storage architecture.

Nachteile:

No major drawback in S3. Would definitely be happy to see more free-tier support especially for educational purposes.

Store, transfer and secure data with Amazon S3

Kommentare: The overall experience with S3 is great . I gave us lot of flexibility to store our huge volume of more securely and safe .

Nachteile:

There are cases where the S3 event triggers at times wont work . Also ,If the S3 get a desktop client by AWS , I feel it would be a great value add.

S3 provides scalability and integration making it an idle choice ass a cloud storage. It has straight forward documentation with packages to implement with various programming languages such as node and python.

Nachteile:

The pricing for S3 is quite high for its usage which makes me hesitated while working with S3 and its usage.

I signed up for an account for a while thinking it was an easy to use storage service, until I realized that it is really a higher-end service for enterprises and high-end companies that need to store high quality data, with security and monitoring.

Nachteile:

I didn't give it that much of a chance to find out, but the free trial gave me plenty of time to look at the program and see its functions and uses.

S3 is still the leader in cloud-based distributed storage

Kommentare: S3 has, truly, changed the world at least when it comes to distributed storage. To call an API, push data to it, and then forget about maintaining the datacenter that houses with is a concept none of us would have believed in the recent past but here we are with monumental amounts of businesses depending on S3 and succeeding with it. Amazon has aggressively developed and released features steadily since the initial launch of S3 and each wave of features is impressively useful and complimentary to the previous feature-set. We use S3 for literally dozens of applications ranging from buckets that store public UGC for web apps to internal data vaults that hold sensitive and private information that is encrypted at rest. S3 has fit so many of our needs and saved us countless hours in trivial datacenter maintenance.

Vorteile:

Objects are globally available but can still be geographically "homed" to a specific region. At-rest encryption can be configured for storage of all objects in an S3 bucket. Cost savings can be achieved by selecting the desired storage class that matches the type of data you're storing. Object life-cycles can be configured that will automatically take certain actions on an object when it reaches a certain age. Object versioning in S3 prevents a lot of anxiety around object corruption in multi-user applications. Object attributes can be set through headers that can facilitate intelligent hosting natively through S3 or through CloudFront CDN hosting. Full-featured static websites can be hosted using S3 and CloudFront.

Nachteile:

Presumably due to the number of press pieces on corporations having data compromised from S3 buckets due to their own negligence, Amazon has invested a lot into preventing unwanted public access to S3 buckets. These extra layers can be a bit cumbersome to those of us who "got it" from the beginning and already know how to secure and S3 bucket.

Great software for some businesses

Kommentare: Amazon S3 helps us share important video files with clients directly as well as through embedding.
It's great that we have 100% control over what people can view and what they can do with the file.
Streaming speed is good, buffering issues being an exception rather than the norm.
Overall it's a great product to use if you have video courses for example.

Vorteile:

I like the fact that after the initial setup, the day to day usage of the product is easy. The software adapts to the IP you are uploading from to optimize the speed of the process. Rest of steps needed to be done to an uploaded file are processed at great speeds and no time is wasted using this tool.

Nachteile:

I dislike the fact that if you need assistance and you don't have a high tier package, you are left with a forum that is not that helpful nor fast in resolving the issue. Some processes that you have to set up are complex and sometimes their FAQ or Knowledge Book does not contain the entire picture needed to understand how to set up a particular feature if you happen to need a feature that is not in popular demand.

I would seriously paid double the cost for this product it offers so many tools and more.
Between AWS and azure . I could never decide ...
Both very useful products for anyone who wants to setup their own server.

I setup a secret code on my account that failed to login to access my account and still have had no support to fix this issue.

This is a very reliable and inexpensive tool to use. This is the main reason why I like this software. Because of the security settings that they have and a large amount of data than you can enter without any restrictions.

Nachteile:

The one disadvantage that Amazon S3 has it’s the interface. It works very slow and sometimes if you are uploading a bigger amount of files that might take a while. Also, some settings like CLI are a bit complicated to use. One more thing that I dislike is that there is no way to rename a folder in Amazon S3. You will need to copy all of the files and then paste them into a new folder that you will have to make and then delete the old folder. It’s just a waste of time doing all this when you can simply rename the folder, but you have to do it.

A benchmark service for all others to aspire to

Kommentare: Once you get beyond the basics, the learning curve can be pretty steep, but given a bit of time to research the service can be a very powerful tool for a large swath of use cases.

Amazon's S3 service is the benchmark that all others compare themselves to and has inspired an entire industry of object storage services. In fact in our experience with other "S3 Compatible" services, they generally recommend installing the AWS CLI application in order to manage the advanced features of their own services. S3 provides a highly customizable service at a very cost effective price, with the added benefit of either reduced performance or redundancy for even lower prices.

Nachteile:

In some cases the documentation and examples available are a little thin or spread out in different places. The examples specifically surrounding bucket policies are a bit cryptic but usable.

Kommentare: Overall experience is very good, and aws cli interface which nicely works with python and the linux terminal enables one to smoothen the overall aws s3 experiences. Because there are no restrictions on filesizes or file types, any company can host its data on aws s3 and be sure to have reliable service. The caveat with aws s3 is that one must understand that it is not a traditional database storage system, therefore will not behave like one. also ensure the admin of the software must be well versed with the various concepts surrounding aws s3 to enable the best bang for buck.
I would recommend this without reservations.

Literally anything and every type of file can be saved to s3 buckets without any limitations. Images,csvs and what not can be easily and safely stored to s3 buckets. One can provision users to have specific permissions regarding bucket access. Literally 99.999% availability at most times.

Nachteile:

it is only as good as the user/admin who knows how to make the most out of this software. there is a deep learning process involved without which one could be flying blind and exposing otherwise sensitive data to the public. the search functionality is practically absent. So there is no easy way of choosing or searching for files. the date columns on the UI seldom work

A Top Cloud Tech Company

Kommentare: I needed a cheap alternative to storing my ever-growing data sets in-house, and also needed to expand my web server storage for backups and daily file usage. Amazon S3 allowed me to do all of that, and more, saving me hundreds of dollars per month in the process. Integrating S3 into my websites was simple itself because the protocols were already built into CPanel and the web apps I use, so it was just a matter of setting up S3 and then activating! Configuring the finer details and security was a bit trickier, but for the cost savings, I'll deal!

Vorteile:

I don't believe I have found a single thing that the S3 platform CANNOT do when it comes to cloud storage. I needed a cheaper alternative for both long and short term data storage, and S3 delivers with it costing PENNIES PER GB to store files online. I love how configurable the storage platforms are, and how you can loosen and tighten security at will to allow exactly what you want, and nothing you do not.

Nachteile:

Like most cloud tech, setting up S3 isn't for the faint of heart. I really wish these guys would build a wizard that would help folks who just need one of a few simple setup options rather than jumping through a hundred sections.

S3 - Low cost cloud storage and best for static content

Kommentare: We use S3 with Athena to parse data we receive from our customers. Using S3 and Athena, we were able to build a model which can automatically populate a set of tables from the CSV files.

Vorteile:

Simple idea, so easy that any one who uses a PC can easily understand the buckets, navigation, sharing of content. Behind the scenes there will seamless redundancy, 99.9999999% availability and so on. Best of all it is not expensive

Nachteile:

Literally nothing. The cost is cheap and we cannot complain about that. Ideal for static website content where you dont even have to spin up an Application server.

Great option for file storage

Kommentare: Overall it has been a great tool for hosting files, both submitted through our web app but also internal files that we serve on our site. It allows us to control who has access to certain buckets and an easy way to securely receive files from our clients.

We use S3 buckets to store data that is submitted through our website. This is great because it allows sensitive data to be uploaded and transferred securely to our team. It also allows for quite a bit of security on the back end to ensure that no one is able to get in and access your files. When you want to host files for your website, this is a great option as well. Whether you're looking to host image files or some other asset. Linking to your S3 bucket allows for easy asset management.

Nachteile:

S3 buckets are a bit complicated to set up. We luckily have an AWS administrator who handles most of it but I definitely found there to be a learning curve that required reading a few online guides to make sure I was configuring it correctly. With that complication, however, comes the ability to really control the security level of your buckets.

Nachteile:

Although Amazon S3 works exceptionally in a high performance, I can not state that the support of Amazon Web Services is performing that much perfectly. First of all support teams return time to the email based cases in resolution center is quite slow and we can not get directly support without subscribing to the pro support plan.

Amazon S3 is an object storage service. It is highly scalable and data availability is also very good of all the different availability zones. Amazon S3 provide the 99.999999999 % (11 times 9) durability. It is the cost-effective storage as we can storage the objects in different Amazon S3 storage class. Best part in it is the old data move automatically move to the low cost storage class based on the access frequency. The cross-Region replication is helpful in to move the data into the local region to reduce the latency.

Nachteile:

Amazon S3 should come up with the auto sync with the local drive option. Managing firewall for Amazon S3 is one important part and should be setup carefully AWS also help and provide suggestion on it but we should not follow it always. Buckets on Amazon S3 also helpful in running the low cost storage. We can not run a complete dynamic website on it.

Efficient and easy to use Distributed file Storage System

s3 auto rewrites the file, need not handle if file exists delete then write etc.. it gives ability to create static web pages, can be used as a redirecting page it can be used in sql copy commands, where a query generated results can be stored into the s3 file in different formats can set different permission models to a file or a set of files in a bucket has Java jar's, python support and ubuntu command line support so that it can be automated through programming

Nachteile:

the file or folder name cant be a prefix sub string of other file name example : if i have file1.csv and file1.csv.zip if i delete file1.csv through code , it deletes both the files and the static web hosting dont support https, for this we have to do a workaround
