Quickbooks is still the best for small business, despite its shortcomings

Kommentare: Overall, Quickbooks is great for small business, particularly those that have all employees on-site. If you have employees off-site or want a third-party (accountant, for example) to have access, you may want to plan ahead of time and determine if Quickbooks is a great fit. There are third-party apps (QBOX) that can help off-site employees access it, but there are limitations. Otherwise, you need IT to help you set up servers or pay higher prices to Intuit for their customized solutions. That issue aside, Quickbooks is a great product after you get past the learning curve.

Vorteile:

Quickbooks is universally known, compatible with many banks and third-party apps, and can be quite helpful for small businesses. You can customize reports, memorize transactions, and make use of many other time-saving features. Once you get comfortable, you can very quickly manage your accounting and see where your business stands. Also, since it is so popular, there are numerous websites that share helpful tips and tricks.

Nachteile:

There is a steep learning curve for most users. You will not feel comfortable with it for the first few months. Since it is so popular, however, you can search for nearly any task and find several websites that explain how to perform a task. As a CPA, sometimes I just wanted to see the transaction behind the curtain and it can be difficult to see that. Also, remote access for an external accountant or off-site employees is cumbersome and can require paid assistance.

Accounting Software with Advanced Features

It only trouble when one tries to change the currency to their local market currency.

Kommentare: The enterprise team was amazing when helping set everything up and have been helpful with any questions since. We used to use desktop so the switch was very easy for us. We did not like QBO and it didn't have the features we needed that were in the desktop version, so this was the ideal solution to add accessibility from different locations and for different users.

Vorteile:

The ability to access from anywhere and with multiple users - even at different locations.

Nachteile:

The ability to save a file onto the users computer rather than the enterprise "computer" is difficult to navigate. Unless using the program that came with the user computer, you don't seem to be able to send emails either.

Best Accounting Software Out There

Kommentare: Used in our bookkeeping division as my bookkeeping programming to help with all bookkeeping capabilities. All the more explicitly, pay and costs, invoicing and tolerating installments, making reports, income, running finance, and so on. The main explanation why I use this bookkeeping programming is on the grounds that I want to grow my business to become a large organization, with multi-layers of business (for example numerous auxiliaries) that I wanted a product that could deal with my responsibility.

Vorteile:

I like the fact that it is the best software of all time and pocket friendly

Its hard to use if you are a beginner, it require experience.

Kommentare: Overall, Quickbooks is an amazing program. As someone who had no training in bookkeeping or business, it was very easy to navigate and utilize fairly quickly. The system is ultimately error proof, which is incredibly reassuring for someone who had no experience when starting out.

Vorteile:

Quickbooks is very user friendly and easy to navigate while being incredibly detailed and accurate. Coming from a veterinary background with not training in bookkeeping or accounting, I was able to utilize the software with minimal training. The way the software is designed, it is virtually impossible for errors to go unnoticed. There are multiple checks systems in place to ensure everything is accurate and correctly accounted for.

Nachteile:

Having multiple users can become a bit expensive. Remote access is also more difficult, requiring a third party to manage remote access. Quickbooks Online offers easy remote access, however, we found that the desktop version was better suited for our needs overall.

Kommentare: It has definitely helped our business stay in compliance. Most CPA’s use this software so it’s an easy way for them to access our information. It has not been an easy software to learn but it’s worth it once you do.

Vorteile:

Once you tailor it to your business and get familiar with the features it can be helpful and stress free. Knowing I’m staying in compliance puts me at ease as well as having one spot I can go to to access all my info.

Nachteile:

It is not user friendly. You can’t just purchase the software and try and “figure it out” on your own. I had to have training from my CPA and it has taken years to fully feel comfortable with it....and I STILL have questions! I also don’t like having to transfer the file back and forth with my cpa which means I have to wait on him to get anymore work done.

Industry Standard but wish it wasn't

Vorteile:

It works with tracking US bank accounts really well. It integrates decently with so many different software systems that it almost makes it a no brainer for US based businesses to use this. It also enforces proper double-entry accounting practices that other "accounting" software packages frequently don't. However, if you aren't familiar with proper accounting, this is going to throw more at you than you might be ready for.

Nachteile:

They are the industry standard and act like it. They sacrifice customer experience and service for their own convenience and advertisement. They are so large they don't care if they anger a small segment of their clients. The system is cumbersome, sometimes broken (their bank system stopped working for several weeks last year), and throws ads for other products in your face all the time.

A little clunky, but still the best accounting software on the market

Kommentare: The main benefit of quick books for my business is the ease of use for everyday bookkeeping tasks, and interfacing with our accountant for year and and quarterly filings. Also, it is such a standard software that it is easy to find new hires with quickbooks knowledge. Once your Quickbooks is set up to suit your business, keeping it up is really easy. It also saves on paper waste as documents and receipts and invoices can be scanned right into the software and the physical copies destroyed.

Vorteile:

Quickbooks contains everything you could need for most organizations. The user interface is a bit difficult to navigate, and could use updating, but the funcionality is there. My favorite feature is being able to attached scans of documents or receipts right to a transaction. You can upload saved scans from your computer, or quickbooks will interface with a scanner to scan them directly into quickbooks, which is very handy. This cuts down on lots of paper in the office. Also, the accountant function is great for utilizing a 3rd party bookkeeper. You can send out a portion of the quickbooks file to your accountant to make changes, meanwhile still being able to use the software and update with new changes.

Nachteile:

The interface takes a lot of getting used to. The usual keyboard shortcuts don't work in Quickbooks, and pulling reports is clunky, but functional in the end. There is so much functionality packed in that it is hard to navigate to simple things sometimes. Not all companies need inventory management and purchase order tracking, and complicated payroll features, but some of these functions are always turned on.

Okay for what it does, unfortunately so many bugs in QuickBooks Online...

Kommentare: As I said, it's such a powerful platform of services and tools that it's hard not to give this software a decent rating, but the price increases and bugginess are just a big frustration. If they could get at least one of those two fixed, I would be a much happier user.

Vorteile:

The software really is powerful and for what it claims to do, it does the technical things quite well. From importing our banking, credit card and payroll transactions to sending out invoices, those usually happen quite seamlessly. And for an integrated solutions, we also use their payment processing service so that customers can pay invoices in one click as well as their payroll service, it's hard to find a package that does everything like this.

Nachteile:

Unfortunately, the QuickBooks Online software is horribly buggy. Whether we're using it in a browser (we've tried them all) or using their 'native program' which is just their own browser window dressed up and dumbed down a bit, the number of times we get errors vs. the software doing what we want it to is staggering. I find that it's not even worth leaving the program open, because I almost always have to restart it to get it to actually load the screen I want nearly every time. It's so frustrating because it never seems to get any better. On top of that, they always seem to be raising the price and now that we're so locked in, we don't have much of a choice but to stay.

Quick Books Premier Edition 2016 Desktop -Good Except Multicurrency is Terrible

This has a great user interface, as a qualified accountant, I can say it's definitely not traditional however it is functional and it has quite a lot of functionality for this price point. For non-accountants this is a good system in so far as it is user friendly. An amazing feature is that transactions can be edited or even deleted at least from the users perspective - that alone is one of the major reasons that I recommend this software ( the audit log maintains a complete record of the entries) Other good points, cost centres, document storage, easy account management, multi company capable, lots of configuration options.

Nachteile:

However this system has some flaws, and one very serious one which i will mention first. Multicurrency capability is a joke, I would say no it's not because its so labor intensive to use it you might as well convert all your currency outside the system and just post in your home currency - that itself is a nightmare and you can expect your auditor to hate on you with a bigger bill and whining but the option of using the currency features is not great either. I am in recovery from this right now so happily have forgotten some of the pain points, here are a few: Entering exchange rates - tedious and labor intensive audit trail for currency transactions - as above Propensity to make recording errors due to the systems short comings pretty high Quality of reporting for multicurrency - terrible, really terrible! ( the nominal ledger is available in the home currency only - if you have a lot of transactions and some reconciliations to do that is bad news. Some smaller issues, reporting is functional /ugly although it's robust its nott very customizable either expect to do formatting in excel . It has some really weird idiosyncrasies, for example under some circumstances to get the right fx rate on a transaction automatically i need to put the wrong date and then change it to the right date. However you have a perpetual licence for pretty powerful and user friendly software. Recommended except for those that do a lot of currency transactions

Gets the job done

Kommentare: Overall, it's good. Based on the reporting and payroll functionality, I would recommend it to my colleagues, but I would also recommend they check out other options. There is lots of software out there, and I think the QB app is pretty weak, and it's likely you could find something that may be better. I also would strongly recommend studying the basics of accounting before you starting your account.

Vorteile:

The reporting function, and the ability to integrate payroll (especially full service) is what makes this product for me. Full service payroll will file my tax forms, auto mail out W2s, and make 1099s fairly easy. I do have a state specific tax that my full service doesn't cover, requiring me to manually print and mail with a check, which can be a bit of a pain.. but it does make me appreciate how much time the other payroll automation has saved me. If you structure your system right, the reporting function is very powerful. Unfortunately, not a lot of people have the foresight going into the software on how to appropriately structure things, so I'd recommend planning out your books with an accountant before hand.

Nachteile:

The customer service is terrible. I usually get forwarded from person to person because I'm in the "wrong department," but I know it's because the person just doesn't know the answer. I do have an accounting degree, so I expect to be more knowledgeable about certain aspects of the system when I call in, but, usually my phone calls are to resolve a software bug or issue. I also think they made a big mistake when they changed their pricing structure by limiting departments/classes to 40 per user. The number is too low, and I previously had unlimited departments/classes, to which Quickbooks made me reduce my total amount when they transitioned to the new pricing structure, with threat of suspension none-the-less. I think that's a pretty terrible thing to do to a long time customer, who had been using the software for 5 years before these limits went into place.

Kommentare: The lamentable truth is that a QB Company record can get ruined whenever for various reasons, and once undermined your essential choice is to present the document to the Intuit Data Recovery group, who illuminate you that their fix exertion will take up to three (3) business days, during which time your business tasks are viably suspended. My recommendation is to consider cautiously whether your business can recuperate from such an interruption prior to wagering its future on QB as a business task stage.

For the Beginner

Kommentare: I would and have recommened this software to many different people for different situations as its user friendly, easy to navigate and has some great custom report features. I run a small local non profit and have been using QB for over 13 years with no intentions of changing to any other service.

Vorteile:

What I like most about this software is the ease of use. They make it very simple to enter customers and vendors along with invoices and/or bills. Then posting the payments and reconciling the accounts. You can use one piece or all the different capabilities, that is your choice as they do all work together.

Nachteile:

The thing I like least about this software is the troubleshooting. You have to have the exact title or phrase of what you've done wrong to find solutions to help you. I typically only do internet searched for assistance and have not used the call in system. That might actually help me more but I'm impatient and typically don't want to wait

I have used QuickBooks for years but I don't use the payroll portion of it.

Vorteile:

The best thing about QuickBooks is the speed and ease with which you can reconcile your bank statements. Assuming you keep up to date on entering your checks (and I know that's a big assumption) you can zip thru a bank statement in a matter of minutes. That part of QuickBooks I give 5 giant shiny stars! It's also very easy to categorize your income and expenses. I then use their income and expense reports to complete my corporate tax return each year. Finally, it's fast and easy to enter both income and expenses. The basics are great, but it's not all roses.

Nachteile:

I've got several gripes in the "Cons" department. First, QuickBooks updates a lot! And sometimes you need to pay for those updates because some feature you had in your previous version doesn't work with the new version. I don't want to think about how much I have actually paid for this software over the years! And quite often, all that has changed is the "look and feel" of the software and more often than not the update isn't doing anything new that the previous version didn't do, at least for my needs. Does that sound familiar? I wonder if some of the QuickBooks people have come over from the Microsoft camp and brought their bag of tricks with them. Another issue is the online features... like automatically downloading from your bank accounts or investment accounts. I don't want to do that and would just as soon not have to pay for updates that add or improve those features. A plus is that you can email an invoice to a client and they have the option to pay you on line from that invoice. That's nice, but the charges for that are very high compared to other similar services. Besides using QuickBooks, I have many clients that also use it. Their biggest gripe is the high cost every year of updating the payroll portion of the program, which, in reality, is just updating a few numbers, if any, in the annual tax tables embedded in the program. You should be able to enter those manually and not have to pay a ransom for that "update".

Kommentare: I just received this product, and I am furious for two reasons. 1) The outside of the package said that I had to scratch off a label to reveal the license number. My fingernail was not taking it off easily, so I continued to work at it, trying to peel it off. I finally was able to gently scratch off and reveal some of the numbers, but whatever adhesive they used on the label TOOK THE REST OF LICENSE NUMBER OFF WITH IT. You can't install it without a license number, so this rendered the disk unusable. Is it really necessary to make someone have to go through that? All they had to do was insert a regular scratch off surface on the package or inside the package, and there would be no compromise of security. This is just incompetent package design, period. 2) It gets worse!! After going through Phone Menu Hell trying to get a live Customer Service person (outsourced overseas) to speak to me, I was informed that this product will not upgrade my old data files from QB 2011 because Quickbooks only supports upgrades within 18 months after the old product is replaced with the next version. Assuming that is true....the ad presentation MUST MAKE THIS PLAIN AND CLEAR UP FRONT!!! I have looked and looked again, and NOWHERE does it say that this will not update old files. If it did say that, then I would not have bought this product, which obviously is of no use. According to QB Customer Service, I can have THEM install the program for $299 and they will convert the files. Now instead, I have wasted incredible amounts of time on a product that I cannot use...and now have to work out how to be refunded. So this is not so much a review of the software itself, but rather a warning to others who are upgrading from anything older then QB Pro 2014 that you may have a lot of difficulty retrieving your product code and you may not be able to convert your existing files to work with the new program. DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU BUY!!! ]

Please don't buy this. It's really, really bad.

The multi-store is awful. It uses a third party email client to send the exchanges. Both computers must be using the same email client, or it causes bugs. Then sometimes the store exchange doesn't actually update anything so you have to do it several times. This is super fun when it won't include employee hours from a satellite store and it's payday. In addition to that, if you're setting up a new store, it must be the same version as the other stores, or it won't work. This becomes a problem when they stop supporting the older version after 12-24 months, which means you have to pay to upgrade every single machine in all of your stores. This software has been a complete nightmare for me, and if you try to call for support you better speak Hindi, otherwise, you're screwed. You don't get a native English speaker on the phone until about the third level of support. An average for me has been a half hour of hold time, plus 20 minutes per level of support, with 10 minute hold times between each "support professional". So generally, it takes an hour and a half of dealing with low-level employees with questionable language skills, asking you the dumbest questions you can imagine before you get someone who can understand what your problem is. I have to do this at least once a month. If you watch it like a hawk; and by that I mean you check you do a physical inventory count and check your items weekly, and you double check every store exchange, it can work. This is probably the worst point of sale software on the planet. I've been fighting it for three years, and I'm happy to say I've dumped it for something much better. The inventory management is not good. It deletes items on its own. It changes the quantity of stock for no particular reason. It loses transactions. It generates duplicate items and prices them at $0, so if your employees aren't paying attention they give stuff away for free. It is impossible to keep an accurate inventory unless you do a physical count about once every two weeks. Sometimes it simply loses data. For example, in 2014, it lost all records of the sales, inventory receiving and employee hours for February, March, and April. It was really a true joy to sit down and try to explain that to the IRS. Quickbooks works well on its browser and desktop app, but loses functionality on mobile app

I have used this software using both Windows and iOS. The functionality is similar on both operating systems, but the ease of use and accessibility to features varies more with how you access it. Web Browser: -All features are available -Ease of data entry Desktop App: -Most, if not all of the features easily accessible via web browser are readily available -Ease of data entry and in my opinion, it is superior to using the software via web browser -Faster login than using a web browser or the app Mobile App: -Ease of on-the-go access to the software

Nachteile:

The biggest issues with this product are with the mobile app, in terms of functionality and accessibility to needed features. In general, the common issue across all platforms is the ability to edit vendor names/customer IDs. This is a huge problem for when you realize you have accidentally created multiple spellings of the same vendor. There is no option to merge the data together under a single, correct identifier. Web Browser: -Website often freezes -Logging in can be a hassle sometimes, especially with two-factor authentication enabled Desktop App: -Susceptible to crashing if you are entering data too quickly Mobile App: -Extremely limited functionality compared to the web browser and desktop app -The mobile app, in particular, forces you to fill in certain fields not required when accessing the software via web browser or desktop app, which can make for a frustrating and time-consuming data entry process

Small business person's perspective of QB Pro 2019 and prior

Kommentare: Overall, fairly positive. Bit stressful if don't understand newly added form questions or when upgrading to a newer release

Vorteile:

Being able to quickly design a reusable invoice template, quickly setup new customer profiles and get invoices printed to PDF and emailed out using a laptop computer was enormously helpful, especially during business travel times before Covid-19 struck. The e-Filing feature (form 941,etc) also eliminated having to make post office trips. The biggest benefit was that the accounting firm I work highly preferred using QB backup files to transmit company info, so they could immediately get to work on tax forms for me.

Nachteile:

There are occasions when: (1) On screen forms change, which require the user to "know" what is meant by a vague phrase (that a non-accountant would be confused by). Making some of the text into a hyperlink to popup a clarification would be helpful and easy to implement, without cluttering the screen with detail that others don't care to see. (2) Sometimes, I have already filled out a quarterly IRS 941 reconciliation form. Then while in the middle of e-Filing it, QBooks suddenly tells me it cannot proceed because I should have downloaded new forms updates. If it had instead proactively checked during my filling out the form to start with (because I spent 15min filling it out), that would have made more sense than waiting until I was finished and sending it out. (3) Each time the software becomes obsoleted in 3 yrs, it just locks up. I usually get an email a few months before offering a discount to upgrade...but not actually advising a date when the software will lock and become inactive. Adding a deadline to the email would be appreciated. Each time our QB checks for updates on the Intuit server, that is an opportunity to capture our release# and base your mass emailings on a data extract which includes the end of life date for that release#. (4) When upgrading to newer versions, there is no way to selectively exclude outdated vendors + trxns.

QuickBooks for Businesses in Fiji

Kommentare: The overall experience with QuickBooks was pleasant. I would definitely recommend this to others for use especially startups. It does all of the work and the tech & online supports is readily available.

Vorteile:

After using various Accounting software that was common in my country (Fiji) like MYOB & XERO i was quite reluctant to use QuickBooks just for the fact that NOBODY else here uses it or even heard of it. However, after using it for a few days I found that it's really great! Right away, a huge PRO for me was the fact that I could attach source documents to pertinent transactions as proof of purchase or payment. This was critical as the Fiji IRS are really strict on this. Also, because some Invoices & receipts fade in time, having copies of source documents there were really great. Another pro is the dashboard itself as soon as you log in. You see the the breakdown of all transactions over a specific period of time represented in a pie chart. This was really cool and it helped me report to my superiors as I could rely on QuickBooks to relay information vital to business decision making. Among other advantages, QuickBooks is very easy to use that helps business owners that have no Accounting experience keep their books in order.

Nachteile:

Perhaps something I realized really quickly was that fact that I could not review transactions to see what accounts would be affected if I made an entry. For example, if a certain vendor was also listed as a customer for the business, I cannot review whether I chose the "vendor" or the "customer" and its effect on the Debits & Credits. In MYOB, I could press ctrl+R to review transactions and it would tell me what accounts are affected and it would confirm whether I selected the right item or not. Producing a chart of accounts report was very hard in QuickBooks. There was no option to allow me to do this easily. Also, producing a report for monthly Tax returns purposes was quite a challenge. I noticed that producing accounting specific reports like Profit & Loss or Balance Sheet was quite easy. However, when it comes to other reports that lie outside of the Accounting scope, producing reports aren't that easy. A good examples was the Tax reports I needed.
