The major issue arose when IONOS/Mail.com decided to discontinue the @lawyer.com domain. Customers were given approximately four months to migrate. For a business user, changing an established email address is not a simple matter. I have more than 120 accounts tied to this address, along with banking, professional services, subscriptions, marketing systems, business materials, and numerous other accounts. I contacted the company looking for a continuity solution, including forwarding, but was not given an option that would allow me to maintain reliable access to mail sent to the old address. IONOS's Legal Department explained that the decision was final and cited the company's Terms and Conditions, including Section 4.1.8 concerning termination of email addresses when the provider's rights to use certain domains terminate or expire. The experience highlighted a significant vendor-dependency risk: an email address that a customer has used for decades can ultimately remain under the provider's control.
